The MTV Video Music Awards of 2012 were held last night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. The pre-show, which follows celebrities entering the venue, is always an escapade of high fashion frenzy. Some of the standout red carpet appearances of the evening go to Rihanna, sporting a new short haircut, P!nk looking amazing after the recent birth of her first child and the Olympic gymnastics “Fierce Five” swooned over meeting their favorite celebrities.
Once the awards show kicked off, host Kevin Hart opened the show trying to cool the tensions between certain celebrities. He made light of the feud between Chris Brown and Drake, while offering Kristen Stewart a pass on her recent relationship situation. Katy Perry took to the stage to introduce Rihanna, and she didn’t fail to get the crowd going alongside famed DJ Calvin Harris.
Teen boy-band, One Direction, won the most awards of the night and defeated fellow teen heartthrob Justin Bieber for the ‘most share-worthy video’ category. Rap label Young Money Cash Money Billionaires came in second with most wards won as a label. The deepest performance of the night went to Frank Ocean with his soulful vocals. The most highly anticipated performances of the night were by P!ink and Alicia Keys. P!nk rocked the crowd and took to the ceiling in an acrobat type of sling; while Keys belted her new single joined by Olympian Gabrielle Douglas and rapper Nicki Minaj.
The night came to a close with country-pop star Taylor Swift performing her song, “We are Never Ever Getting Back Together”. The fiery hit song really gave the crowd a powerful close to an epic night of music, fashion and humor!
