Jerome Monroe Smucker began selling apple butter from the back of a horse-drawn wagon in 1897. Starting with only one product, and a traveling business, the J.M. Smucker name became well-known throughout Ohio. In 1921, the company was incorporated and began to manufacture spreads, peanut butter, shortening, ice cream toppings, condensed milk and natural beverages. Some notable brands under the Smucker name include, Jif, Crisco, Pillsbury and Hungry Jack.
