Is Your Child Over It? When To Call It Quits

Cute Little Girl

Sometimes what once seemed like a great thing winds up heading in the opposite direction—just look at relationships. Careers are no different, and the odds that your child will start one career and continue to be engaged throughout life can be slim.

Think of all the things you wanted to be as a little boy or girl. Chances are pretty good that you’ve changed your mind a few times down the road. Your child is no different.

Here are four signs to let you know if it’s time to call it quits:

1. Your child cries about the work.

One bad day isn’t going to ruin a career, but if your child consistently cries before, during, or after work, you should try to find something else that will make them happy.

2. He or she never shows excitement.

Many actors, actresses, and models enjoy the spotlight. The rush of adrenaline the entertainment industry brings should show in some level of anticipation. If your child never shows excitement or joy when it comes to work, it may be time to talk to them about how they feel.

3. Industry professionals suggest trying something else.

If multiple insiders in the field suggest that you’re wasting your time, then it may be time to focus your child’s attention on something more productive and enjoyable. Not every child actor or model chooses to continue to work once they get older. Keep in mind that they can always come back if things change.

4. Your child says they’d rather do other things.

This is the easiest answer to your concerns. If your child complains or suggests that they don’t like working anymore, then it’s time to reevaluate the situation. Try to find out where their change of heart is coming from, and if there’s anything you can do to make the problem go away. If they genuinely do not like working in the industry anymore, there is really nothing left to do but find something else.
