Get Him to the Greek : A Movie Review

no comments

By G. Rivera

I went into this movie with a pretty optimistic mind, I enjoyed Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and I found a few laughs in college toilet humor movies Knocked Up and Superbad. So I guess my final thoughts on Get Him to the Greek was that although portions of it were definitely strange, the overall movie was pretty funny.

The movie centers around two of the most unforgettable characters from the film Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Russell Brand is back as a trouble-ridden and rowdy rock-star Aldous Snow, and Jonah Hill as Aaron Green is now a record label flunkie and still an all-faithful Snow fan.

Aldous Snow’s career has apparently tanked after the release of his last album, the disastrous, “Infant Sorrow” which included the condescending and semi-racist lead single “African Child”. Though Aaron was disappointed in Snow’s recent work, he is still an avid fan and suggests a comeback concert to his big-time record executive boss, Sergio (played by Sean “P. Diddy” Combs).  Sergio agrees to the Aldous Snow comeback concert at the Greek Theater in LA on the conditions that Aaron will travel to London and bring back the drug-addicted, unruly rocker and have him in tip-top shape for the performance. As soon as Aaron steps off the plane in the UK all mayhem ensues as he tries to get Snow to Los Angeles for the performance that could ultimately save his career.

The initial wild party scenes of Greek were pretty hilarious as Aaron tries his best to keep up with the wild singer, although I could have lived with a few less puke scenes, ugh. Brand really shines in this role, a role that many people wonder is based on the real him, as there were a few touching scenes between Hill and Brand, in which Brand comes across as someone really working on honing their acting skills. It also gives some validity to the hysterical mayhem that takes up much of the movie. Hill also does a decent job acting as a scattered but dedicated employee and fan, who is also battling relationship problems with his live in girlfriend (played by Elisabeth Moss). Sean “P. Diddy” Combs’ character Sergio seems to be based closely on Diddy’s real-life reputation, and although he makes for a few chuckles, even acting as himself many times Combs seemed to overact and make the scenes slightly awkward.

There were a few scenes that were just completely awkward, and there was a weirdly placed fight-scene that was slightly odd, but all in all still pulled for a few laughs.

In the end, there were a lot of laughs, some awkwardness, but some triumphs as well. Get Him to Greek should probably shy away from a sequel, but it will definitely make for a great movie night with friends.

Let’s congratulate InterFACE clients Phillip G., Dominic D., Emanuelle M., Lovette J., Patrick C., and Mimi S.who worked on The movie Get Him to the Greek!

InterFACE Client Ryan M.

Talent marketing company InterFACE helps 8 year-old Bronx, NY resident Ryan M. start his acting career on the right track by working on hit TV shows “Law and Order: SVU”, “Boardwalk Empire” and the upcoming  “The Smurfs” feature film

New York, NY June, 16th 2010—Just a year ago, Ryan was your typical, active, and outgoing second-grader. However, today, he is gearing up for his five day booking next week in the upcoming kids movie, “The Smurfs;” based on the hit 1980’s children’s television show, filming in one of the nation’s most magical toy stores FAO Schwartz, and booked through New York management company Divine Management. Talk about a kid’s dream come true! In the past few months Ryan has worked on several different jobs in the acting industry including minor roles on Law and Order SVU & CI, as well as featured background in the gritty upcoming FX series documenting the rise and fall of Atlantic City, NJ in the 1930s, the Martin Scorsese directed “Boardwalk Empire.” These amazing opportunities were provided to Ryan by cutting-edge talent marketing firm Interface.

Since Ryan began working with InterFACE in early November 2009, he was able to complete a high-quality, comprehensive professional photo shoot, and have the photos marketed to over 60 agents and managers in the tri-state area. His crystal-blue eyes and killer smile snagged the interest of many industry professionals, and has led to his success in being booked on several jobs.  “Ryan loves his new adventure,” says Ian, Ryan’s father, as he recalls Ryan’s first job as a prep school student on Law and Order SVU, booked through New Jersey agency Xist Talent. “He loves going to the sets and is always asking when he is going back.”

InterFACE offers a platform for kids just like Ryan, who have a burgeoning interest in acting and modeling, to start off their careers at a pace that is comfortable and the guidance they need to understand the process. “I would definitely recommend InterFACE to friends,” says Ian, “Vickie and the InterFACE promotions staff are so helpful, and are always there if we have a question or concern, they really put him first, I think Ryan is in safe hands.” There are definitely more great things to come for this rising star. Sex and The City 2: A Movie Review

The Cast of SATC2

By G. Rivera

Let me just start by saying this. I am a native New Yorker, I am a die hard SATC fan, (I mean like an I’ve-been-watching-since-Season 1-Episode 1 type of fan) and I also generally liked the first ‘Sex in the City: The Movie’. So if you feel that this review might be a little biased, then you may want to stop reading here.  Although I must warn you, I am going to be brutally honest.

So I guess I will just say this right off the top: I wasn’t that impressed with Sex and The City 2. See? Shocked you, didn’t I?

The movie starts off in typical SATC style; completely grand and over the top at the surprising nuptials of two SATC long-time regulars. An interesting early performance by Liza Minnelli was quite entertaining but left me not really knowing whether to stand and cheer or wince in pain. However, we are soon whisked on to the lives of our four favorite girls. Carrie and Big are settled into an amazing Park Avenue-esque apartment, Miranda and Steve are still going strong, Charlotte is dealing with motherhood, and Samantha is…well, still Samantha.

Although there are definitely some changes in the girl’s lives, the movie just seems to chug along at a rather boring pace. Not that I would want to see anyone left at an altar, but I must say it helped in making the first SATC movie so gasp-worthy, and the emotional ups and downs left us on the edge of our seats. SATC 2 doesn’t seem to grasp that same “we’re all rooting for our girls” type of energy.

It also doesn’t help that this movie abandons what made the series so famous; the trendy, ultra-fab New York City setting.  Over an hour of SATC 2 is spent in lavish Abu-Dhabi, within the United Arab Emirates. Although the landscape and accommodations are gorgeous, the whole setting of the heavily Islamic Abu-Dhabi seems like an obscure background for Carrie’s “J’adore Dior” T-shirts, and Manolo Blahniks. The movie also repeatedly presses the differences in culture between Americans and the people of the United Arab Emirates; sometimes making the girls seem almost insensitive to other cultures (i.e. Samantha’s menopausal meltdown, Carrie’s glee at her $20 shoe find).

Don’t get me wrong there are still some classic SATC moments in this movie, and there is also a surprise appearance by old favorite. And of course we all LIVE for the girl’s incredible costume changes and Carrie’s exhilarating shoe display. But overall the move lacked the magic that made it such a thrill to watch on HBO for those six glorious seasons.

Let’s hope there will be a Sex and The City 3 and that it’s a little more dazzling than this last installment. I will still be one of the first girls racing to the theater decked out classic SATC style—a cocktail dress and stilettos!

Let’s congratulate InterFACE clients Rohan  who worked on Sex and The City 2: The Movie

InterFACE is the liaison between the entertainment industry and people looking to break through its barrier. One of those lucky few is Harrison, NY resident 14-yr old Angelica, who signed up with InterFACE just under three months ago, and has since worked on a number of exciting bookings, including a job booked through New Jersey agency Xist Talent on the hit USA series “Royal Pains” starring Mark Feuerstein.

Angelica B.

“The first job working on Royal Pains provided a great opportunity for Angelica,” says Angelica’s mom Stacie, “as she was on set working we were approached by an acting coach!” To help get her better acclimated to the entertainment industry, Angelica also has had the opportunity to participate in informative seminars with helpful agents and managers such as Staten Island’s Divine Management. Angelica looks to keep working and learning more in this new exciting field.

Energetic Teen Works on Set of NBC’s “Mercy”

no comments

South Norwalk, CT, 3/25/2010 – Darius is an energetic 15-year-old from Norwalk, CT. When he was about 10 years old, Darius first mentioned to his parents, Darryl and Lisa, that he wanted to pursue modeling and acting.

InterFACE scouts first approached Darius at the Milford Mall in Milford, CT. Despite doubts about paying for a photo shoot, Darius’ parents let him go through the process because he was so enthusiastic about it. He came to the InterFACE studios for his photo shoot in October 2009.

InterFACE marketed his headshots to an agent who booked him as an extra for the NBC series “Mercy”, a medical drama about the lives of employees at Mercy Hospital. Says Darryl, “Darius enjoyed working on the set of ‘Mercy’.”

“Darius thought the experience was very interesting. He liked the setting and all the people who put it together,” said Darryl. “My son would like to participate in other modeling or acting jobs.”

Darryl would recommend InterFACE to other clients, especially if they are very enthusiastic about the possibility of working in film and television.

Carmen Has Been Watching InterFACE Grow

Human Resources Director Carmen has worked for InterFACE since the company celebrated its grand opening. She remembers when InterFACE’s headquarters were just a blueprint and a dream. Says Carmen, “I have seen the company grow from 10 employees, in the first few months, to 250 employees strong!”

Carmen is responsible for determining the strategic and programmatic needs for the human resources department at InterFACE Talent. She presents those needs to senior management and supports the effective implementation of strategies, programs, and services. She also helps to evaluate these things once they have been implemented.

“No two days are the same,” says Carmen, who is challenged by the fast-paced environment. “I never know what the day will bring!”

She enjoys seeing so many employees return to InterFACE year after year. Says Carmen, “I know that InterFACE is a great place to work because, during school breaks, former employees request to work for us again. Fifty percent of our summer staff comes back every year.”

Carmen believes the best part about working for InterFACE is the flexibility and creative environment. Says Carmen, “Our employees have flexible hours, and they are responsible for themselves. We also pride ourselves on being an equal opportunity employer.”

“InterFACE is a young company full of energy. The client comes first, at all times. We pride ourselves in marketing and promoting talent,” says Carmen. “You need to experience it for yourself!”

Bubbly Six-Year-Old Feels Like an Academy Award-Winning Star!

South Norwalk, CT, 3/24/2010 – Emmalyn Grace is an energetic six-year-old from Orange County, NY. Despite her charming disposition, crystal blue eyes, and curly light-brown hair, she remains humble.

An InterFACE talent scout first noticed Emmalyn Grace at a mall near her hometown.

“As proud parents, we are very protective of our daughter,” says Nick, father of Emmalyn Grace. “After meeting with InterFACE General Manager Eric, my wife and I felt very comfortable. Eric’s professionalism and honesty put our minds at ease. We felt assured that letting our daughter pursue her dream of acting and modeling was a good move.”

Emmalyn Grace is extremely intelligent, and she can sing, dance, and act. She began talking at a young age and first started acting as the star of her own imagined tea parties. During these flights of fancy, Emmalyn Grace would address each doll with a different tone of voice. Her acting skills were very convincing, and she would continue these parties for hours at a time.

“She is not shy, and she takes direction very well. She has been a ‘ham’ since she first learned to walk,” says Nick. “Her dreams about what she can accomplish are endless.”

About six months ago, Emmalyn Grace did her first photo shoot with InterFACE. InterFACE marketed her to various agents and, since then, she has booked a number of projects through these agents.

“Her favorite job was a ‘Law & Order’ episode. Emmalyn Grace was an extra at a ballet birthday party scene. Both main characters were on set, and she enjoyed the process of shooting the scene several times to capture all the different camera angles for the scene,” says Nick. “To hear the director say ‘and action…’, tell her hold her mark, and let her know when to participate on queue was very exciting for her.”

Nick and his wife believe that InterFACE has given their daughter Emmalyn Grace the opportunity to experience a “TV/movie-set” type job.

Say Nick, “Even though she will start off with small parts, those parts are Academy Award-winning roles for her. In her dreams, she wins.”
