The talent show The Voice has been known to bring us all types of unknown, amazing talent from across the nation. Some aspiring singers are more experienced, like last years winner Jermaine Paul who sang back up many years for R&B songstress Alicia Keys, and others are brand spanking new to the stage. Amanda Brown is one of the most recent Voice contestants that has been stunning the judges and the nation with her performances on the series.
A Bronx, NY native, the 27 year-old began her musical journey singing gospel, but at an early age she was blown away by the rock group Radiohead, and began incorporating other styles of music into her repertoire. The active singer has performed in various venues in New York City, and also nailed an impressive slot as a background singer for pop sensation Adele, appearing with her on tour and during live performances.
Brown is determined to make her mark on the music industry as a solo artist and is using The Voice as that platform. During her initial audition, Amanda channeled the late Amy Winehouse with her rendition of “Valerie”, even with her powerful pipes, Amanda managed to only command the interest of one judge, Ceelo Green. However, the performance cemented her continuation on the show.
During a recent episode Amanda was chosen to participate in a duet sing off with fellow teammate Trevin Hunte, another New York native with gospel roots. The duo never made battling look so sweet, as the two crooned through a near perfect rendition of Mariah Carey’s “Vision of Love”. After the performance, which was lauded as “the best sing-off performance in the history of the show” by Christina Aguilera, Ceelo was faced with a difficult decision to keep one singer, in which he chose to stick with Hunte. However, fellow judge Adam Levine jumped to Amanda’s rescue offering her a chance to be on his team in a new “steal” move that is available this season, an offer Brown accepted much to the delight of all of her fans and supporters.
We are excited to see what else will come from the talented young singer Amanda Brown on this season of The Voice and beyond!
