During the weekend of April 20-21st, the biggest names in fashion attended an international event in London, England. Vogue teamed up with Vertu – a British based luxury phone designer- to create this fashion extravaganza. The difference between this high profile event and most others were the exclusive interviews with top designers Tom Ford and Diane Von Furstenberg, four of the industry’s leading fashion designers, and notable fashion photographer David Bailey. The festival provided attendees with access to makeover stands, fashion photo shoots, and a chance to listen in on fashion trend panel talks and exclusive previews of fashion films.
The most widely discussed event, was the interview with the four fashion models: Natalia Vodianova, Jourdan Dunn, Lily Cole and Eva Herzigova. The group discusses hot topics such as model diets, societies view on body image, and their own personal stories. When discussing body image, Natalia Vodianova declared: “C’mon guys, you know it’s better to be skinny than to be fat.” Of course this was a tense moment, especially when uttered by such a famous model as Vodianova. It seems body image is a controversial topic that no one can quite agree on.
The legendary Tom Ford was under the spotlight for the event, and during an interview with Vogue Magazine he revealed a little known secret about his creative process; “I put on every single thing – I don’t wear it down the street, but I want to see how it covers, how it works.” When it comes to this style icon nothing seems out of the ordinary, as he adds so much to the fashion world with every collection.
This fashion festival was the first of its kind, but hopefully won’t be the last. The star-studded event brought celebrities and fashion designers from all over, and the success of the event was felt the world over.
