What are the requirements to become a model?

The requirements to become a model differ depending on the type of modeling and the age and gender of the model. One of the most common and coveted type of modeling is high fashion modeling. High fashion modeling includes both print advertisements as well as runway shows for many luxury brands and fashion designers. The basic requirements for female high fashion models is to be at least 5’9” or taller and between a size 1-4 in dress size. High fashion men models are typically 6’0”-6’3” tall and size 40-42 Regular in suit.

Commercial modeling is a more casual type of modeling that covers a variety of different types of brands, including catalog and editorial print advertisements. Agencies vary in the requirements they set for their commercial modeling section. Typically commercial models come in all different heights, sizes and body types, and agencies utilize models that best work for the particular client.

Plus size modeling is a different type of female modeling that focuses on curvier women. Most plus size female models are between 5’8” in height and between 10-16 in dress size.

Kids and teen models are also part of a vast industry that differs in requirement from agency to agency. Most children and teen agencies accept children from age 4 to 16 years old.

Fitness modeling is a type of modeling that spotlights athletic models and works in advertisements and print ads that are of a health and fitness nature. The requirements for men and women are similar to high fashion modeling, however the model also has to have a well-maintained athletic build.
